As well as my sister’s flat, I recently helped a friend on her new kitchen. She came to me with a plan, chosen cabinets, worktops, flooring, bifold doors, windows and even a tradesman boyfriend to handily get the job done, but wanted help with the finishing touches, ensuring the end result didn’t feel “too vanilla”.

We had a quick catch up on what colours and materials she liked, as well as what items had been bought - a mini questionnaire and analysis - before I worked up a concept…

Design Statement

The colour scheme took inspiration from the chosen worktop surface. Whilst it appeared largely neutral, there were underlying shades of dark grey, green, beige and blue. Keeping the layout, cabinetry and flooring as they were, we decided to elevate through a selection of accessories in the aforementioned shades. With a preference for organic materials, the form of such objects leant heavily on the curvature so often seen in nature. The colours and shapes united to give a calming feeling, providing a space that is perfect to wind down in.

Sourcing

After finalising the moodboards, I provided links to all sourced items - things like the fabric, paint, tap, chair, artwork.

Et voila!

My friend had more than just the bones already. She knew exactly what she was looking for and I just helped tie it all together with some finishing touches. We didn’t stray too far from the initial renders, but ensured the end result was a bit more contemporary and in keeping with the rest of the house.
