Morocco Mini Series: Scarabeo

Morocco Mini Series: Scarabeo

The Dali Lama’s quote, “silence is sometimes the best answer” is the first sentence on Scarabeo Camp’s website. While this may be because it is temporary closed, in light of the current Coronavirus pandemic, I think it speaks volumes. Every bit the antidote to the hustle and bustle of Essaouira, it was all I’d hoped for.

Greeted by mint tea and Moroccan treats once more, we were led to our bedroom - cosy, colourful and romantic. Each nomad tent has a traditional Moroccan lounge, complete with ethnic cushions, wood burner, beautiful lamp and little accessories. There’s a double bed with a pom-pom detailed throw. Oh, and the perfect view across the stone dessert. Here, we settled in for a relaxing afternoon.

At dusk, lanterns are lit about the camp and a great fire takes centre stage. As the sun sets, guests gather together, before making their way into the dining tent. A guitarists serenades each table and candelabras set the room aglow, as a traditional Moroccan meal is served. The atmosphere is simply magical.

The next morning, we set our alarms for sunrise. Despite being the opposite of an early riser, it was worth it. We rolled up the door and took in the view whilst laying in bed - pure bliss.

After breakfast, we had just enough time for a camel ride. While it may look relaxing, I spent most of the time trying to keep my shoes on and moaning about how uncomfortable my crotch was! Perhaps its best to watch these weird and wonderful creatures from afar? Other activities on offer include quad bike tours, massages, horse-riding, trekking, yoga classes and stargazing.

Back to the camp for checkout, we had just enough time for a cup of mint tea, before setting off for Marrakech…
