Blog Updates
All change please…
I’ve spent the majority of this year doing the same as most - working from home, struggling to draw the boundaries between “office” hours and free time, dreading the sound of the Teams ring tone. I worked bloody hard, barely took a day’s holiday (because, is it really worth it in lockdown?) and, ultimately, burnt out.
During this time, I kept coming back to the same question: when all there is to do is work, is this really what I want to be doing? Without my team around me, the office culture, the occasional social event, is this job really fulfilling me?
Judging from the first sentence of this post, you can probably guess the answer I came to. And so I handed in my notice - no job lined up, no promise of steady promotion up that corporate ladder and definitely no comfortable salary.*
A ship is safe in the harbour, but that’s not what ships are for, and all that. So, what’s next? Well, the very thing I started this blog hoping to do: pursue a career in interior design and property development. Although what form this might take is not so clear!
Do I look for a role in an interior or property related company, using my current account management skills, whilst learning what I need on the side (CAD, Sketch Up, a course in Interior Design), before gaining work experience and then buying a place to do up? Who knows…
Whatever the form, I’ll be sharing my journey on here, as well as on Instagram. And perhaps even hitting TikTok with my table scapes idea. Watch this space - hopefully by the new year, I’ll have lots of exciting updates. Before then, hold tight for a wrap up of a few of the trips that I’ve been on or places I have visited up until now.
*I wholeheartedly understand that most people can’t afford to leave their jobs for all manner of reasons and I recognise the very privileged position I am in. But I also realise the extent of my burn out and how much a break was needed! Fingers crossed I can make the risk worthwhile.
