Honest Thoughts on Buying

Ten things that have gone through my head over the last six months…
Its hilarious (read terrifying) that you make your biggest ever monetary purchase after viewing a property for 15 minutes. I’ve spent longer comparing ready meals
The best and final offer is literally game theory in action. We tried to get into the inner psyche of the other buyer based on the smallest snippets of information (she viewed the flat with her mum so HAD to be young)
No one tells you that when your offer is accepted, everyone needs to know everything about you, like immediately. Funny that I didn’t name Kuleen on any of the utility bills for our rented flat, so he seemingly doesn’t exist (lol)
If you don’t have a simple pay roll job, mortgages are really quite complicated
Does anyone really know what is going on half the time? I mean, I’d hugely recommend our mortgage advisor and solicitor as they largely chased us, but still, does anyone have a clue?
(a) What is with the waiting? Everything is so, so slow
(b) What is with people being surprised at how slow things are going. Like, idk dad, why is it taking so long?
Along the same line, what is with all the documents? There are so many, with so much jargon. How does anyone buy a property?
Moving out is the ultimate toil, but it is a good time to clear out. Hello Facebook Marketplace, goodbye every single piece of furniture we own
Transferring ££ to your solicitor is also terrifying. Here, let me just send you every single penny I own, lmk if it goes through okay
I’m so excited for the house buying admin to end, but will that just transition into house owning admin? Who knows, we’ll see in a couple of weeks
Anyway, hooray for exchanging.
