A Plant Lover's Flat
We all have a plant friend, right? The person you go to when you’ve managed to kill your third succulent in a row (I thought they were idiot proof), or when you need some advice as to why your cheese plant leaves are brown. Well, mine is Casey - Aussie, co-founder of Black Lines cocktail company, and all round cool person. He currently lives in a converted warehouse in Bethnal Green, along with two flat mates. With house plants a plenty, I had to photograph his place…
Casey describes his interior style as 1950s Scandinavian. There’s definitely a Soho House feel, but everything has been carefully curated to fit with the building – the high ceilings, the heavy warehouse materials. And much like the Scandi focus on colours found in nature, Casey’s use of burnt oranges and greens bring warmth and a sense of earthiness to the space.
Each piece of furniture in the flat seems to have a story behind it. Perhaps this is because Casey favours local vintage stores, as well as finding pre-loved gems on eBay and Shpock. Although currently not running due to the big C, he also shops at the Vintage Furniture Fair at his local town hall. Other items are inherited from previous tenants, including the Parker Knoll 1970s Fireside Armchair and the 1960s kitchen cabinets from the Natural History Museum.
At his last count, Casey had around 50 plants, although a quick scan of his Instagram shows he’s always adding to the list. The fiddle leaf fig tree is the biggest in height – gifted from a florist friend who specialises in shop installations, this one had been burnt under florescent light and needed some all-important TLC to make it healthy once more.
Interior goals. And, it get’s better. Casey’s East London plant haven will be available to hire for small-scale events once everything is back to normal. Give The Greenhouse a follow for more information and a helllla lot of inspo.
