Welcome to Maiami

Welcome to Maiami

The largest island in Greece, Crete is best known for its ancient history. I guess that’s what made Maiami stand out to me - juxtaposed with the traditional eateries and trinket stores that sit alongside it in Koum Kapi (a neighbourhood just east of Chania’s main harbour), its design is bold, modern and unapologetic.

I had it on my list of places to visit, but we accidentally stumbled across it after an afternoon on the beach and I’m so glad we did. As a side note, if you ever find yourself on the island, you must visit Seitan Limania - a slice of heaven located down a steep, rocky path!

Maiami is the brainchild of New York artist Alexandra Manousakis. She is inspired by a diversity of things and moments experienced throughout the day, which is clear in the space. This studio come brasserie come boutique is a stunning expression of creativity, whether that’s in the murals in the bathroom, the textures on the walls, the floor treatment, the statement bar, the fireplace, the food or the ceramics. I’d also add the service too - our waiter oozed an energy and zeal that made our visit all the more pleasant. Housed in a 1950s, deco style building, it really is a complete package.

A bounty of colour, with delicious food and cocktails, Miami is not one to be missed. I’ll certainly be buying some ceramics when I can and have no doubt that this space will be a roaring success - follow their journey here!
