Petersham Nurseries
After the doom and gloom of last week’s post, it seems only right to flag what we do have access to in London and across the UK - and that’s a lot of green space. From gardens and conservatories to forests and greens, a lot of us are spoilt. Camera in hand, I recently visited Petersham Nurseries, a colour lifestyle destination that is heavily focused on nature and is truly ‘green’ as a business.
At its core, Petersham Nurseries is a family business. Francesco and Gael Boglione, along with their young family, moved from central London to Petersham House in 1997. Fusing their Italian and Australian identities with the very British environment in which they now lived, the couple created a stunning lifestyle destination. Opening in 2004, the concept drew on Francesco’s history in buying and selling furniture, paintings, decorations and the like, and Gael’s elegant style. Their exceptional eye for design is clear the moment you step foot into the Nurseries in Richmond.
More recently, eldest daughter Lara has assumed the role of MD and is responsible for bringing the concept to Covent Garden. By maintaining a sharp focus on brand values, she has transported the family’s positive living mantra to the city centre.
And what are these brand values? Well, they are heavily focused on the environment. Petersham Nurseries is “fundamentally connected to nature” – whether that’s sourcing responsibly, growing organically, capitalising on natural light or recycling. In their own words, the business is thoughtful, respectful, nurturing and visionary….
As well as everything photographed here, Petersham Nurseries offers so much more, including a glasshouse restaurant and a teahouse (both of which were unfortunately closed when we visited). It’s inspiring to see a business so dedicated to nature and the environment thriving in today’s society. Long may it continue!
